Le Grand Fat Tour is here! We went down for the first stop, taking place at the Catamount Outdoor Family Center in Willison, VT. Despite the weather being cold, windy and chilling, around 60 riders turned out to enjoy some winter fat-biking. Many demo bikes were available from other shops for those looking to try a fat bike for the first time, or check out some new options.
We rolled out of the gate a little late that morning and found ourselves pulling into the parking lot as the fun race was taking off. Instead of the classic marked loop type race, the first stop of Le Grand Fat Tour featured a more orienteering type race, giving racers a map with several marked stations to visit- great idea guys! Each stop of the tour will feature a fun race and the series champion will win a custom Xprezo Gros Big.
The trails were in great shape, and we were fortunate enough to receive some snowfall the night before so coat the trails in some white goodness. Who wants to roll a fatty in the dirt in the winter time? After meeting up with some friends we hadn't seen in a while, the fire drew us in for some food and beers (maybe the Limbo keg drew us to the fire?). It's all about the inside jacket for winter bike events like this, and we helped ourselves to the unrestricted keg, rallying for hot-laps in between cups.
It was great to get out and ride with a crowd for the first time of the year. I always enjoy and embrace riding alone, but it's always refreshing to mob deep with a crew of fatties.
See you all in Stowe next month for Uberwintern!
